Global Activities
United States
We have constructed an optical network spanning the United States using Hitachi's ultra-long haul DWDM optical transmission technology in response to a request from Global Crossing Ltd. The total fiber route is over 10,000km long.
In the optical access business, in October 2005, together with the Hitachi Telecom (USA), Inc. and Hitachi, Ltd. we received an order for a Gigabit Passive Optical Network System that will be the first such commercial system in North America. We want to boost the trend to full-scale commercial service in order to further expand our American market.
China
In the Chinese market, we have provided over 60,000 PHS base stations which have been delivered through our partner on an OEM basis, and we are active in various next-generation, state-of-the-art technologies ranging from Voice server, broadband access gateway and IP technologies to 3G mobile technologies.
In the optical access business, in April 2005, together with the Hitachi Corporation we established a new company, Salira Systems Inc., to strengthen our business in China. The company will serve as a new development and marketing base.
Australia
In 2004, the Hitachi Group will start building a broadband communications network in Australia in cooperation with CEOS Pty Ltd., an Australian information and communication venture. Hitachi & Hitachi Communication Technologies will provide a home-use PON system for the optical communication network project being sponsored by the Victoria State government, while CEOS will build and maintain the PON system.
Our broad product line including a Gigabit Ethernet PON system can rapidly respond to market needs.
