In response to the growing need for higher speed Internet access lines, we develop FTTH products that link users via fiber. Hitachi Communication Technologies has responded flexibly to the service needs of carriers by quickly completing new products such as media converters that provide direct fiber access and PON (Passive Optical Networks) for multiple users. These products are already being used by a number of carriers.

The WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) system uses technology that simultaneously transmits multiple optical signals at high speed through a single optical fiber. Hitachi Communication Technologies maximizes business performance with DWDM systems that perform ultra-long haul transmission exceeding 8,000km without regeneration to meet the demand for high capacity and long distance. We are conducting research and development to achieve even higher capacity and longer distance.

The need for mobile communication is shifting from voice terminals to the high speed and high volume data communication of entertainment terminals. At Hitachi Communication Technologies, a special feature of our powerful CDMA technology is its flexible response to the transmission of both data and voice. One result of our skilful use of the most advanced wireless technologies to develop high speed communication systems is the 1xEV-DO mode that is compatible with MC-CDMA of IMT-2000. It has already shipped for commercial service and is attracting interest from overseas customers. Our PHS products, which are attracting attention due to their high-volume data communication capabilities, are also being introduced overseas.

In the field of IP communications, whose use is spreading through mail and on the Web, Hitachi Communication Technologies is pursuing an even wider range of applications, lower costs and ease of use by promoting compatibility with the next generation address IPv6. We are developing broadband access servers that accommodate both IPv4 and IPv6 broadband users, address translators for smooth conversion to and from IPv4, and IP solutions. For companies with a great need to reduce communication costs, we can integrate all networks, internal telephones, etc. with VoIP technology in full-IP communication systems. Our leading products in this segment are Telephony servers, Voice servers, IP-PBX and VoIP gateways.
